freeehouse Test phase

Get found locally on Google

According to Google, how well a business appears in local search depends on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. You influence them with a complete Google Business Profile, a website with one page per service and a genuine local focus, and with reviews and mentions in your region.

What counts according to Google?

In its Business Profile help, Google names three factors for local ranking:

  • Relevance: How well does your profile match the search? Category, services, description.
  • Distance: How far is your business from the searcher or from the place searched for?
  • Prominence: How well known is your business? According to Google this includes reviews, links and mentions, and also the position in the normal search results.

You cannot change the distance. The other two you can.

What does the website do for local search?

A lot. The website shows Google exactly what you offer and where. What matters:

  • a separate page for every important service
  • place and service area visible in the text, in the title and in the Impressum (the legal notice German law requires)
  • the same spelling of name, address and phone number as in the Google profile
  • common questions local customers really ask, such as parking, directions, waiting time

Do I need a page for every town?

Only if you really have something of your own to say there, such as a second location, your own team or specific projects on site. Google calls mass-produced identical town pages where only the place name is swapped doorway pages, and treats them as spam. That can harm the whole website. A page that describes your service area honestly is better.

How do I become better known?

  • Collect reviews steadily and reply to them.
  • Listings in the main directories, with identical details.
  • Memberships in associations, guilds and chambers with a profile page.
  • Local press, clubs, sponsoring, partnerships with other businesses.
  • Content others like to link to, such as a useful guide for your region.

What about Bing and Apple?

Bing and Apple Maps also have their own business listings. Many navigation and map services draw on them. See Bing Places and Apple Business Connect.

What has worked for customers?

For websites our agency has rebuilt, we measured for example: a beverage retailer ranked #1 locally for three relevant search terms, and a department store in Weil am Rhein raised its local visibility by around 380% and got three times as many enquiries. These are individual results confirmed by the customer. Nobody can guarantee rankings.

At freeehouse every service gets its own page, name, address and phone number match your Google profile, and we do not build mass town pages. We do not charge for the build. Claim your spot on the waiting list

What about businesses without a shop?

Tradespeople, mobile services and midwives work at customers' premises. In the Google profile you then enter a service area and hide the address. On the website you describe the service area honestly, for example with the towns you regularly work in and examples from those towns. A list of a hundred towns with no content achieves nothing and looks unprofessional.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to the top on Google Maps?

With a complete, verified Business Profile, the most precise category, regular reviews and a website that clearly describes your services and your location.

Are town pages bad?

Only if they are interchangeable. A town page with a real connection, such as a location or projects on site, makes sense.

Does my address have to be visible in the profile?

Only if you receive customers there. Otherwise you enter a service area.

Does an ad help with local search?

Ads appear separately and are labelled. They do not improve the unpaid results.
