freeehouse Test phase

Website builders compared 2026

After all promotions end, the big website builders cost between €12 and €18 a month for the mid-range plan according to their price pages, but they differ widely on email, how tax is stated, cancellation and whether you can take your site with you. No builder lets you take it with you completely. A self-hosted WordPress site does.

Which website builder suits whom?

  • Wix: if you enjoy designing freely and have the time.
  • Jimdo: if you want a simple site from a German provider and can manage with few subpages.
  • IONOS: if you want website, domain and mailbox from one place.
  • STRATO: if you want to build it yourself cheaply for the long term and need lots of subpages.
  • Squarespace: if beautiful templates matter to you, creatives for example.
  • WordPress: if you want control and ownership and will take care of maintenance.

Each provider has its own pages on costs, cancellation, alternatives and pros and cons: Wix, Jimdo, IONOS, STRATO, Squarespace, WordPress.

Which providers do our customers come from?

Of the first 35 businesses that signed up with freeehouse in October 2026, 12 came from Jimdo, 8 from Wix, 5 each from STRATO and IONOS, 4 from Squarespace and one with a self-built site. The most common reasons: no time for upkeep, the site looks dated, and costs have risen over the years.

If you're done with website builders: freeehouse builds your website by hand, it's yours including source code, and you pay nothing for the build. After that only hosting with care, cheaper than today. Claim your spot on the waiting list
