Why businesses leave IONOS MyWebsite

  • Export only until you cancel. According to IONOS, data export is no longer possible once the cancellation of the product takes effect. If you're switching, back everything up first.
  • Website, domain and email in one contract. Before you cancel, IONOS recommends listing all email accounts, mailboxes and forwards. There is often more attached to a contract than you'd think.
  • The site belongs to the website builder. A MyWebsite site runs on IONOS's system. With us you get the source code and can keep the site running with any provider.

How the move works

  1. 1

    Back up what's there

    We capture the text, images and structure of your site. According to IONOS, you should also back up all data from the product before cancelling and download your invoices.

    Rebuild with preview

    We build the new website. If you'd like, you see a draft first.

  3. 3

    Point your domain

    Your domain can stay with IONOS. We only change the DNS records so it points to the new site. If Domain Guard is active, IONOS says it has to be switched off before you cancel.

    List your mailboxes

    We go through all mailboxes and forwards with you. They can stay with IONOS or move.

  5. 5

    Cancel the contract at the end of its term

    You cancel the MyWebsite contract at the end of its term. Our billing only starts then, at the latest 5 months after you say yes.

Cancel IONOS MyWebsite

According to the IONOS help pages, you cancel in your IONOS account under My Account, Contracts & Subscriptions. There you pick the contract, choose Cancel contract on the Details tab and confirm at the end with Cancel contract now. You can also cancel by phone. You can cancel a whole contract or individual services, and the confirmation arrives by email. The notice period is in your contract, and IONOS points to a separate help article on notice periods.

Frequently asked questions

Does my domain stay with IONOS?

If you want, yes. We just point it at the new website. When you cancel, make sure you cancel only the website and not the contract the domain is attached to.

What happens to my emails at IONOS?

They can stay there. If you want to move them to us, it's €12 a year per mailbox and €12 a year per domain.

Will it be cheaper than IONOS?

Yes. Hosting with care costs less with us than today, as a final price. Our hosting is cheaper than with your current provider.

What if I don't like the new site?

Then everything stays as it is. If you like, you see a draft first, before you decide or cancel anything.
