Jimdo: pros and cons for businesses

In Jimdo's favour are its base in Germany, simple use and prices including VAT from €12 per month. Against it are limits on subpages and design, that the site cannot be taken with you and that the upkeep stays with you.

What speaks for Jimdo?

  • Provider from Germany. Jimdo is based in Hamburg. For many businesses that is an argument for data protection and for having a contact.
  • Simple to use. The builder is deliberately kept plain. If you only need an online business card, you are done quickly.
  • Clear prices. Including VAT according to the pricing page, from €12 per month on 12 months.
  • Basics in the plan. HTTPS, contact form and a mobile layout are included in all paid plans according to the pricing page.
  • Domain free in the first contract period.

What speaks against Jimdo?

  • Limits on subpages. According to the pricing page, 10 in the Start plan and 50 in Grow. Anyone who wants to give every service a page of its own hits the limit quickly.
  • Little design freedom. The templates are simple. Sites in the same industry often look alike.
  • No taking it with you. According to the Jimdo help pages, content does not move along with a domain transfer. Switching means a rebuild.
  • Fixed terms. Plans renew, and according to the Jimdo help pages cancellation generally has to arrive one month before renewal.
  • The work stays with you. Texts, images, structure and keeping it up to date.

Is Jimdo good for Google?

Jimdo offers the basics: page titles, descriptions and a sitemap. The limit is more in the structure. Anyone who wants to be found on Google for several services needs a well-explained page of its own for each. With 10 subpages in the starter plan there is little room for that. How Google ranks local businesses is covered in the guide Getting your website found on Google.

Who is Jimdo right for?

For individuals and small businesses that want to maintain a simple site themselves and manage with few subpages. For clubs, hobby projects and the start of self-employment, Jimdo is a decent choice.

Jimdo is less suitable if the website is an important enquiry channel, you explain many services or simply have no time for upkeep.

What do we hear from businesses leaving Jimdo?

In October 2026 Jimdo was the platform most businesses came from at freeehouse: 12 of the first 35. Common remarks in the conversations: prices are rising, they have just renewed for two years, and worry about domain and mailbox. Several customers, not only from Jimdo, wanted to keep their current look, just more modern. That is no problem with a rebuild.

There are also businesses that are very happy with Jimdo and like designing their site themselves. For them there is no reason to switch.

If you are missing subpages, time or looks at Jimdo: freeehouse rebuilds your site, in your current look if you like, and charges nothing for the build. You only pay for hosting, cheaper than today. Claim your spot on the waiting list

Checklist: stay with Jimdo or switch?

  1. 1

Will 10 subpages in the Start plan be enough in the long run?

  2. 2

Are you happy with how your site looks, also compared with competitors in your city?

  3. 3

Do you have time to keep the site up to date yourself?

  4. 4

Is your email solution sorted, for example through a provider of its own?

  5. 5

Do you need features that Jimdo does not offer, such as a booking system of your own or multiple languages?

If you answer the first four questions with yes and the fifth with no, there is little reason to switch.

What should I improve at Jimdo if I stay?

  • Check the page title and description of every page, with service and place.
  • Give your most important service a page of its own.
  • Use real photos instead of template images.
  • Check your Impressum (the legal notice German law requires) and privacy policy for current details, for example the link to the EU dispute resolution platform that is no longer required.

Frequently asked questions

Is Jimdo reputable?

Yes. Jimdo is an established provider from Hamburg. The downsides lie in the builder model, not in reputation.

Is Jimdo GDPR-compliant?

Jimdo is a German provider and offers tools for a privacy policy and cookies. Whether your site is legally sound depends on your content and the services you embed.

Why do Jimdo sites often look alike?

Because many are based on the same templates and offer little design freedom. Your own photos and clear texts can soften that.

Can I run a shop with Jimdo?

Yes, Jimdo has shop plans. For very large ranges with many payment methods, specialised shop providers are usually better suited.
