How do I cancel Jimdo step by step?

According to the Jimdo help pages, cancellation is done in your account:

  1. 1

    Log in to Jimdo.

  2. 2

Open the Subscription section of your website.

  3. 3

Choose contract management and cancellation there.

  4. 4

Confirm the cancellation and keep the confirmation email.

Add-on products such as domains, mailboxes or legal texts are in the same section, but according to the Jimdo help pages they are cancelled individually. A cancellation letter by post is not necessary.

What notice period applies at Jimdo?

Jimdo plans have fixed terms and renew if you do not cancel in time. According to the Jimdo help pages, cancellation generally has to arrive at the latest one month before the renewal date. The Jimdo terms of use state different rules for contracts with a German billing address, depending on the date of signing up. So look up the exact date in your account.

If you have missed the deadline, the contract renews for the agreed term. In that case it is worth planning the switch so that the new site is ready when the new term ends.

Do I get money back from Jimdo?

According to Jimdo, consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal where the law provides one. It does not apply to business customers. After that the plan runs to the end of the paid period, and a partial refund for early cancellation is generally not provided.

What happens to my website after cancellation?

According to Jimdo, after the paid plan ends the website continues as a free plan, so without your own domain and with the restrictions of the free offer. It cannot be exported as a working website. You should back up content such as texts and images beforehand if you need them yourself.

What happens to my domain and email?

This is where most problems arise. According to the Jimdo help pages, neither the content nor the email accounts move along when the domain is transferred. Anyone who cancels the domain before the mailboxes run elsewhere may lose emails in the worst case. So the rule is: touch domain and email last. How to keep both is under Cancel Jimdo, keep domain and email.

What order do I do things in?

  1. 1

Look up the cancellation date in your account and put it in your calendar, one month earlier.

  2. 2

Have the new website built; the Jimdo site stays online meanwhile.

  3. 3

Clarify whether the domain stays at Jimdo or moves, and where the mailboxes will be in future.

  4. 4

Switch the website, leave the email records unchanged.

  5. 5

Only when everything runs, cancel the website plan.

  6. 6

Check add-on products one by one and cancel only what you no longer need.

The general version for all providers is in the cancellation roadmap.

If your Jimdo contract is still running, that is no obstacle: at freeehouse the first invoice only comes when it ends, at the latest 5 months after you say yes. We do not charge for building the new site. Moving from Jimdo

Checklist before you click cancel

  • Have you noted the end of the term and the renewal date in your account?
  • Is the new website finished and checked, with the Jimdo site still running?
  • Do you know whether your mailbox is with Jimdo or only a forward?
  • Have you written down all email records of the domain?
  • Have you backed up texts, images and form entries?
  • Have you decided whether the domain stays at Jimdo or moves?
  • Have you downloaded the invoices?

Only when you can answer everything with yes do you cancel.

What does a cancellation mistake cost?

The most expensive mistake is a cancelled domain with your email attached. Then emails stop arriving, often unnoticed until a customer calls. The second most expensive is a missed deadline: the contract renews for the full term, and you pay another year or two. Both can be avoided with a calendar entry and the right order.
