What is Wix and who is it for?

Wix is a builder from Israel that lets you click a website together from templates without any programming knowledge. Hosting, security certificate and technology are part of the plan. The site always runs on Wix's servers.

Wix suits you if you enjoy designing yourself, have the time, and have no plans to take the site to another provider one day. It gets harder if you have little time, want the site to load fast or want to stay independent.

What does Wix cost?

According to the Wix pricing page (retrieved on 22 October 2026), the Light plan costs €14 per month paid yearly and the Core plan €25 per month. Wix quotes these prices without tax. A domain is included in the first year, after that you pay for it separately. An email mailbox is not listed in the price overview, Wix offers mailboxes through Google Workspace for an extra fee.

PlanPrice according to WixStorageNote
Light€14 per month, yearly2 GBplus tax
Core€25 per month, yearly50 GBwith online payments

How this adds up over three years and which items come on top is covered in the article What does Wix cost?.

How do I cancel Wix?

You cancel a premium plan in your Wix account under Premium subscriptions. According to Wix, the plan stays active until the end of the billing period. A domain bought through Wix is not cancelled with it. The exact steps, the 14-day rule for first purchases and the right order are in the article Cancel Wix.

Can I keep my domain and email?

Yes. The domain can stay at Wix and point to a new website, or you move it to another provider. The order matters, otherwise in the worst case your email is gone. How it works is explained in Cancel Wix and keep your domain.

What alternatives are there to Wix?

The obvious ones are other builders such as Jimdo or Squarespace, a self-hosted WordPress, or a website built for you by a provider. When which route fits is covered in Wix alternatives and weighed up honestly in Wix pros and cons.

If you want to leave Wix without starting from scratch: we rebuild your site by hand, take over all the content and charge nothing for the build. Afterwards you only pay for hosting, cheaper than today. How it works is explained under Moving from Wix.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wix free?

There is a free plan, but then the site runs on a Wix address with Wix ads. For your own domain you need a premium plan, from €14 per month paid yearly plus tax according to the pricing page.

Can I export my Wix site?

According to the Wix help pages, no. A Wix website has to run on Wix's servers and cannot be operated with another provider. Switching therefore always means a rebuild.

What happens when my Wix plan expires?

According to Wix, the site stays online but runs on a free Wix address again, with ads. Your domain then no longer points to the site.

Does Wix include an email address?

No mailbox is listed in the price overview. Wix offers business email through Google Workspace, which you book and pay for separately.
