Cancelling STRATO: notice period, options and the domain trap

At STRATO you cancel online in your customer login, by phone with a service PIN, via the contact form or in writing, at the latest one month before the end of the term. Careful: according to STRATO, cancelling a whole package also cancels all the domains in it, and a storno takes effect immediately and returns the domain to the registry.

How do I cancel STRATO online?

According to STRATO, in the customer login:

  1. 1

Log in to your STRATO customer login.

  2. 2

Open the area for your contract and choose Cancellation and storno.

  3. 3

Select the package and decide whether to cancel the whole package or only an add-on product.

  4. 4

Give a reason, enter your password and confirm.

STRATO then shows the date on which the cancellation takes effect.

Can I cancel STRATO without a login?

Yes. According to STRATO, you can also cancel by phone, for which you need your service PIN, via the contact form or in writing. If you no longer have access, the phone route is usually the fastest. Have your customer number and service PIN ready.

What notice period applies at STRATO?

According to STRATO, the cancellation must be received at the latest one month before the end of the term. If you miss the deadline, the contract renews for another term. According to the pricing page, the builder's promotional plans have a minimum term of 12 months. According to STRATO, you can withdraw a cancellation in your login up to 30 days before the cancellation date.

Cancellation or storno: what is the difference?

This is the biggest trap. A normal cancellation takes effect at the end of the term. A storno, on the other hand, takes effect immediately according to STRATO and cannot be revoked. With a storno, according to STRATO, the domain is also returned to the responsible registry. If you want to keep using your domain, you must move it into a domain package first, according to STRATO.

For a planned switch you almost never need a storno. Cancel normally at the end of the term.

What happens to my domains?

According to STRATO, cancelling a whole package also cancels all add-on products and domains in it. That is the most common reason businesses suddenly stop receiving email after leaving STRATO. Before you cancel the package, move the domain into its own domain package at STRATO or transfer it to another provider. How to do it: Cancel STRATO, keep your domain.

What order do I do things in?

  1. 1

Look up the end of the term in your login and note the deadline.

  2. 2

Finish the new website. The STRATO site stays online.

  3. 3

Move the domain into a domain package or transfer it to another provider, including the email records.

  4. 4

Switch the website to the new provider and check it.

  5. 5

Only then cancel the builder package normally at the end of the term, no storno.

  6. 6

Check add-on products one by one.

Already missed the STRATO deadline? At freeehouse, billing still only starts when your STRATO contract ends, at the latest 5 months after you commit. The new site can be finished in parallel until then. Move from STRATO

What to do if the domain is already cancelled?
